A Defense Party to Remember
October 1st, 2012A beloved member of our group defended her thesis today and will be departing for her postdoc in a week. She gave a fantastic talk and will be missed dearly. This was the centerpiece of her defense party:
Yep, that’s a moon bounce, set up right next to the Beckman Institute at Caltech. Pretty epic. I can’t think of any similarly notable defense parties I’ve attended, aside from the time we purchased $200+ of food at McDonald’s and built a pyramid of burgers and apple pies. It was heaven.
Congrats, GK!

You guys know how to party.

The moonbounce quickly turned into a skating rink after 2 fifths of whiskey were spilled during the celebration. Thankfully, it was outside of the lab and EHS didn’t have to be called to contain the ethanol spill …

I remember that McDonald’s party (good ol’ Brooks) – I’ve never eaten so many chicken nuggets in one sitting…
Perhaps our lab’s most memorable defense item was at Dr. Fischbach’s. Given that he doesn’t like baked sweets, Courtney cooked him a meatloaf “cake” with mashed potato icing – the congratulatory lettering was written in ketchup….

@Brian: I’d have to be in the right mood, but that sounds kind of awesome. I hope it was an evening defense. The idea of meatloaf before noon rubs me the wrong way.
