Video: I’m a Chemist and I Know It
This video arrived in the ChemBark mailbag today courtesy of Robert. It is best watched with laser goggles of OD 50 or higher.
And this video from the same channel addresses a practice that has escaped proper ridicule for far too long:

The first video’s funny but it may not really help improve the public’s perception of chemists or chemistry.

That first video left me so very, very disturbed.

A warning about seeing the guy’s junk flailing about would have been appreciated.

You should do a post on the various chemistry christmas parties (the roasting of the faculty) throughout the country. There must be youtube videos galore.

Columbia’s “Winter Shows” are on YouTube and they’re pretty interesting. Your request reminds me of how Harvard canceled their tradition of holiday skits when a certain ultrafamous professor was upset for being teased about stealing ideas from another ultrafamous professor—by sifting through his garbage.

Aren’t those guys worried that the video may hurt their employment chances? Oh, wait PhD chemists, no damage will be done.

From what i’ve heard, that idea also happened at Columbia. They did a skit suggesting that sames goes through danishefsky’s garbage, looking for discarded research proposals. Also heard that one of the students did a weird contortionist skit involving a tennis racket and bagpipes. At princeton a re-enactment of profs high on pot was done.

Someone told me about the professor portrait video–brilliant. I was sad that they missed the category for mullets however.
